Melton integrated sexual and reproductive health project<br />

Melton Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health project (Melton SRH)

The Melton SRH Project is an initiative of the Multicultural Health and Support Service to connect service providers with the community in order to create safe, inclusive and accessible sexual and reproductive health services around the Melton district.

Human Relations Project

The Human Relations Program has been running for over 20 years. This program is led by GenWEST. MHSS has been a major partner in this program. The primary objective of this program is to provide culturally safe, sex positive, in language sexual and reproductive health information to newly arrived migrant and refugee young people. This program is delivered in Western English Language School (WELS) Braybrook Campus and Wyndham Campus. Other supporting organisations are cohealth, IPC Health, Maribyrnong City Council Youth Services and Wyndham City Youth Services.

MHSS Advisory Body Group

The MHSS Advisory Body, a community-led initiatives operates as part of Multicultural Health & Support Service (MHSS). It champions prevention activities, campaigns, interventions, and community education within refugee and migrant communities to enhance their health and well-being. The Advisory Body’s vision is to elevate awareness and understanding of health issues, encompassing viral hepatitis, sexually transmissible infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, healthy relationships, consent, stigma, and discrimination.

Past Projects

Peer Education Projects

MHSS has successfully delivered peer education with a community-driven approach to health promotion that leveraged the power of shared experiences, cultural understanding, and trusted relationships within communities. These initiatives trained community members to deliver evidence-based health education about blood-brone viruses (BBVs) and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Multicultural Sexual Health Network (MSHN)

This platform brought together stakeholders from various sectors including health, youth, settlement, education, employment and housing to discuss strategies to address some of the health issues affecting asylum seekers, refugees, migrants and international students, such as emerging blood borne viruses and STIs.

Multicultural Community Action (M-CAN)

Refugee and migrant communities are more vulnerable to blood borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections and generally experience poorer health outcomes compared to the established Australian population. (M-CAN) brought together members from these communities to help like-minded people work towards improving the sexual health of their own communities.

Keeping you Sexy and Safe (KYSS)

Education initiative for Young People about STIs, BBVs & healthy relationships.
The KYSS Project seeked to bridge the gap & address the lack of sexual health & literacy knowledge prevalent among disengaged young people, especially those from refugee & migrant backgrounds and young asylum seekers, who are at high risk of contracting STIs.
