African Diaspora Networking Zone at AIDS 2014

In partnership with the African and Black Diaspora Global Network on HIV/AIDS and the Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations, the Multicultural Health and Support Service hosted the “African Diaspora Networking Zone: Under the Baobab Tree” at the International AIDS Conference in Melbourne in July 2014. The bright and inviting zone was visited by thousands of people and was considered a great success.

Online Training – ‘Introduction to Cultural Competence’

‘Introduction to Cultural Competence’ is an interactive online training module which will help you be more culturally aware and responsive to the needs of your diverse clients. The duration of the training is 30-40 minutes. This training can be accessed from any computer with internet access and can be completed at the user’s own pace. This training is suitable for health, community and government workers working with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

Introducing SHARE – Sexuality Education in Comics

To celebrate youth week this year, the Multicultural Sexual Health Network (MSHN) held a forum to share knowledge and tools to provide quality sexual health and healthy relationships education to young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds. We also launched our new resource, SHARE.

The Sexy Times – a sexual health and identity zine

This project brought young people together to collaboratively create a zine that reflected issues which were important to them. This included messages around positive body image, fighting gender-based violence, and prevention of blood-borne viruses and sexually transmissible infections… and much more.

We are managing and improving the Department of Health and Human Services’ Health Translations Directory. This project involves working with organisations who have contributed their resources, reviewing the functionality and design of the site, and developing new multilingual health resources.

Our Peer Education Program aims to work with people from the community to open up discussions about sexual health and blood borne viruses in a way that is easy to understand and is culturally appropriate.
