Same sex relationships

Sexual activity between two people of the same sex happens in every country in the world.

Some women who have sex with other women call themselves lesbians; others call themselves bisexual; and others see themselves as heterosexual women who sometimes have sex with other women.

In some countries, same-sex relationships are against the law. Some cultural or religious groups disapprove of these relationships and deny that it happens in their community. As a result, lesbians and gay men may experience discrimination.

In Australia, same-sex relationships between adults are legal, and considered both normal and acceptable behaviour. Discriminating against anyone on the basis of their sexuality is illegal and unacceptable in Australia.
