The conference dinner is the social and networking event of Diversity in Health.
This year we make the most of Melbourne's reputation as the food and entertainment capital of Australia. We present award-winning comedy and Australia's only multicultural women's DJ collective, creating the atmosphere of a night market as our guests sample tastings from across the world.
The venue
We leave the Melbourne Convention Centre behind, follow the river, and head to ZINC at Federation Square, one of Melbourne's most stylish event spaces.
The food
Wander through hawker stalls and sample the freshest and most exciting street food from around the world ... from Chinese dumplings in cane steamer baskets to pans of paella studded with prawns and chorizo, from tapas of chargrilled octopus and blue-eye croquettes to North African tagines spiced with ginger, cinnamon and preserved lemon, from sushi and nigiri served on banana leaves to vegetarian pizzas topped with vine-ripened tomatoes, roasted red peppers and buffalo mozzarella.
We showcase the finest Australian produce in dishes from around the world - a true expression of Melbourne's culinary diversity.
The comedy
Just back from sellout performances in Adelaide and Sydney, Aamer Rahman and Nazeem Hussain, winners of the Best Newcomer Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2008, bring their show Fear of a Brown Planet Returns to Diversity in Health.
With pointed observations on race relations, immigration laws and the experiences of brown people growing up in a white culture, their ruthless and irreverent humour might make you slightly uncomfortable ... but you'll be laughing too hard to care.
The music
Lady Fingers, Melbourne's first multicultural women's DJ collective, serve up a cross-cultural blend of beats - from bhangra to reggae, swing, soul, funk, rock and much more.
With performers hailing from Birregura, Somalia, Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Uruguay, Samoa, New Zealand, Rwanda and Australia, Lady Fingers represent Melbourne's musical diversity at its finest.
We are also immensely proud to present Ajak Kwai, a Sudanese-born singer and songwriter who blends the traditional songs of her culture with soul and funk rhythms to create a unique and powerful musical performance.
