Background:
The Western Region Project builds on the 2010-2011 problem gambling prevention and early intervention work undertaken with the Karen community in Werribee.
Through a Karen women's wellness group it has become apparent that increasing numbers of men and women are visiting gaming venues and playing pokie machines sometimes with significant negative impact on families. A decision was made to develop an audio visual resource in 2011-2012, due to the high number of Karen with low literacy levels and interest in the community.

In collaboration with project partners and key stakeholders, MGHP developed and coordinated the production of a DVD chapter focussing both on prevention and the consequences of problem
gambling. a Karen gambling story has already proved enormously popular with the target audience and was officially launched in February 2012.
